FORWARD at 40
It all began 40 years ago, when Efua Dorkenoo OBE and a small group of African women gathered around a kitchen table. In that intimate space, Efua broke the silence on Female Genital Mutilation.
Efua planted the seed and FORWARD built the movement.
What started as courageous conversations grew into an internationally recognised force for change. From grassroot activism to shaping national policies and global institutions, our vision has remained the same: a day when Black and minoritised women and girls will live in dignity, are healthy and enjoy equal rights free from fear of violence.
To mark FORWARD’s 40th anniversary, we are celebrating with Seeds of Change, a year-long campaign honouring our journey, celebrating our growth, and recognising the incredible changemakers who have stood with us.
Throughout the year, we’ll be hosting inspiring events, community workshops, and live discussions to reflect on our impact and look ahead to the future.
We’re raising £100,000 to for our next phase of growth- to strengthen grassroots organisations, train future leaders, and expand our life-changing programmes for Black and minoritised women and girls.
Join us. Follow our journey, attend our events, support our initiatives, and help us plant the seeds for lasting change.
