FORWARD’s Young Women’s Hub Presents: The Red Issue
FORWARD’s Young Women’s hub presents: The Red Issue proudly supported by Afronoire and Collective Auction Rooms.
So, what is a Red Issue?
Red issues are “taboo” topics that require debunking and open discussion amongst the women they affect. Approaching these topics may sometimes be difficult and awkward but these topics can facilitate the journey to self- acceptance, ownership and solidarity. At this event, we will be exploring “Red Issues” such as sexual pleasure, reproductive rights, reproductive health and societal pressures:
- How does outward societal pressures placed on Black women and BAME affect their sexual preferences in the Bedroom?
- When does a “type” become a “fetish”? Should the notion that a preference for Black women is a “fetish” be challenged?
- Do you think that BAME women’s experience of pain is not recognised by society?
- Should “designer vaginas” be banned?
FORWARD’s Young Women’s Hub is a platform for young women to meet, network and participate in discussions exploring all aspects of their lived experiences. We hold monthly meetings aimed at young women aged 18 and 30 from BAME communities.
This event is a space for all BAME women aged 18-30 to share and discuss their ideas in a completely safe space. We ask that all identities are respected as there will be zero tolerance on homophobia, racism, biphobia and transphobia.
