Stop FGM: Launch of new campaign poster on International Day of the African Child
On this 24th International Day of the African Child, FORWARD reaffirms our commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of girls at risk of female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage on the African continent and in the Diaspora. FGM and child marriage are two forms of violence against women and girls that limit the potential and opportunities available to girls. FGM and child marriage are social norms in many communities and the two issues are interrelated, with FGM often seen as rite of passage to womanhood and therefore marriage. FGM is forced on young girls and thus in many communities this then means they are ready for marriage. See here for more information on our work to end child marriage.
Please add your support to FORWARD’s work in ending female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage. You can donate here to help us ensure a positive future for African girls, free from harm.
Also on this important day we are pleased to share our new Stop FGM campaign poster which was kindly developed for FORWARD by student midwife from Cardiff- Jessica Laidlaw. If you would like copies of the poster for your School, University, Surgery etc. then please contact: [email protected].
