New FORWARD UK Project – Multi-Agency FGM and Child Protection Training
The need for multi-agency training for all education, health, social services and child protection professionals emerged as one of the key issues in a survey conducted by FORWARD, into inter-agency policies and procedures relating to FGM in England and Wales (1998). Such training is crucial for those professionals working with affected communities. In June this year, the project to mobilise professionals to campaign against FGM in the UK commenced. Funded by Comic Relief, the project aims to train professionals working amongst Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) practising communities in Cardiff, Birmingham and London. This is a two year project and is being co-ordinated by Amanda Lawrence.
