Male Peer Educators: Call For Expression of Interest
FORWARD is a partner in the Men Speak Out (MSO) project, co-funded by the European Union and coordinated by GAMS Belgium. The goal of the project is to involve men in tackling female genital mutilation (FGM) through promoting behaviour change and encouraging men to speak out towards the eliminating the practice. The project is a partnership project with three organisations from UK, Netherlands and Belgium.
We are seeking to recruit 15 Male Peer Educators who will be willing to work with their communities through outreach and training activities.
Profile of Male Peer Educators
We are seeking to recruit men from the African diaspora who have links to a country where FGM is practiced. We are keen to identify men from different communities that are affected by FGM. They must meet most of the following criteria;
Able to read and write in a minority ethnic language
Willing to engage men within his communities
Willing to involve men in their communities through dialogue, workshops, seminars etc.
At least 18 years old and above
Have a fair knowledge of English
Willing and able to travel to Amsterdam for a two day meeting at the end of the training programme in London
Duties of Male Peer Educators
Participate in 7 training sessions in the Male Peer Educators Training which will take place on the following Saturdays- 12th & 19th September; 10th, 17th & 24th October; 7th & 21st November 2015
Advocate for the involvement of men in the fight to abandon of FGM
Participate in 5 supervision meetings of peer educators, 1 meeting per month
Organise and present awareness campaigns within their communities
Plan and evaluate information sessions
Organize at least 10 activities
Motivate attitudinal and behavioural change amongst their communities
Provide support to their peers
Take part in data collection – conduct surveys
Work as a part of a team (e.g. organise activities together)
Signpost (e.g. refer people to appropriate organisations)
Remuneration of Male Peer Educators
Transport allowance for the 7 training sessions
30 euros for each activity carried out
All Male Peer Educators will travel to Amsterdam, Holland for a two day meeting where they receive training on how to administer the survey questionnaire for the MSO quantitative research and meet and share experiences with other Male Peer Educators from Holland and Belgium.
