Government Officials Pledge to Support FORWARD and CDF’s FGM and Child Marriage Campaign in Tarime District, Tanzania

Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) raises the profile of the Child Marriage and Female Genital Mutilation work in Tarime, Tanzania supported by FORWARD.

Through an intensive campaign in Tarime District during the cutting season at the end of 2010, CDF worked with religious and traditional leaders, Ngariba’s (excisors), communities, and District officials to ensure as many girls as possible did not undergo FGM.

This campaign lead to the imprisonment of two excisors, and the constant presence and campaigning of CDF in the region over recent years has lead to new pledges of support not only from District officials but also from some traditional leaders.
