FORWARD FGM Information Pack and Wall Chart
FORWARD has recently been awarded a grant by the Body Shop Foundation to produce an information pack on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and a wall chart for refugee, asylum seekers and ethnic minority populations living in the UK.
The information pack will include information on types FGM, cultural significance and reasons for the practice, prevalence, health implications, FGM as a human rights issue, policies and legislation in the UK and Africa, and FORWARD and other organisations who have programmes to eradicate FGM. The information packs aims to increase knowledge of the issues surrounding FGM, initiate debate, and recruit support from professionals for the campaign. The information pack will also be a useful resource for students or even the general public who want to know more about the practice.
The wall chart will form an information resource for affected women and girls and also for those at risk. Giving details about African well women clinics specialising both in FGM and other reproductive and sexual health services, advice and counselling services and sources of information on FGM, as well as helpline numbers. This will be produced in English and Somali and will be distributed to local health centres and refugee women’s groups where many women in need can access this information.
