CREATE Youth-Net PEER Research – Consultant
FORWARD (Foundation for Women’s Health, Research and Development) is seeking to appoint a qualified PEER consultant with experience of working on issues relating to BME young people as well as knowledge of issues relating to violence against women and girls, in particular female genital mutilation and forced marriage.
Background
CREATE Youth-Net is a project that aims to safeguard young people from harmful practices in particular female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced marriage through empowering young people to be confident advocates for change and peer mentors within their communities, and improve collaboration at European level. The project will strengthen joined up working through partnerships spanning four European countries, UK, Holland, Portugal and Ireland. It will facilitate exchange of knowledge and good practice and enable sharing of learning and resources on engaging youth in interventions making for maximum impact. A key result of CREATE Youth-Net for partners will be better understanding of young people’s needs and development of youth centred strategies to be made widely accessible to other organisations in Europe.
Key activities
The first activity of CREATE Youth-Net will consist of the gathering of information on young people’s perceptions and attitudes on FGM and forced marriage through the use of participatory ethnographic evaluation research (PEER).
The purpose of the PEER is to:
- To generate an evidence-base on the experiences, attitudes and perceptions of young people on issues affecting them.
- To develop young people’s capacity to undertake PEER research in each of the partner and associate countries.
- To develop strategies for working and engaging with young women from affected communities on issues they face, focusing on FGM and Forced Marriage
The consultant’s task will be to train young people in the UK, Portugal and the Netherlands on PEER research methodology. The consultant will, with project coordinators, support 10 young people to implement the PEER on Female Genital Mutilation and Forced Marriage in their country. The PEER consultant will also analyse data collected and write a report on the findings of the research. This report will inform the work plan and project activities for each youth group
The PEER consultant will be expected to coordinate with FORWARD’s project manager regarding the implementation of the project. The PEER consultant will be expected to travel to Lisbon, Portugal and Amsterdam, Netherlands to deliver the a three day training with 10 young people on PEER; as well as conducting a three day training in London on PEER.
Remuneration:
The expected time for the project is 3 months, with the final report expected to be completed at the latest 1st of November 2013. The consultant will be contracted for 30 days of work, on a daily rate of £341. The work will commence on Wednesday the 15th of July 2013.
Please note that travel and accommodation will be provided by FORWARD. Payment will be made on receipt of invoices for days worked at the end of the project.
