Training Details
Aim: To increase knowledge, awareness and understanding for professionals on the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). This will help strengthen competency and skills and enable multiagency cooperation in relation to safeguarding, mandatory reporting and support services for those at risk and or are affected.
Duration: 1 full day
Who should attend? The training is aimed at GPs, midwives, nurses, social workers, teachers and key staff at any agency involved in treating and supporting women and girls affected by FGM.
Outcomes
- Better understanding of the practice of FGM and the social and cultural context in the UK.
- Increased knowledge of the UK law, mandatory reporting and recording duties and referral pathways.
- Greater insight into the provision of appropriate care and support for women and girls affected by FGM.
- Increased awareness of the role of statutory agencies and key professionals in
responding to FGM. - Better understanding of practical issues and strategies for initiating discussions around FGM, and working with individuals, communities and stakeholders to respond to FGM.
